Bean Trefoil (Anagyris foetida)

$23.49

Also known as 'Stinking Bean Trefoil,' this unique Mediterranean shrub is a winter-blooming legume that provides striking yellow-green flowers when most plants are dormant.

While its foliage emits a pungent odor when bruised, it is valued for its architectural form and nitrogen-fixing capabilities.

It is exceptionally drought-hardy and well-suited for rocky, warm-climate gardens.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does it have a strong smell?
The odor is a natural defense mechanism to deter herbivores. You’ll generally only notice it if the leaves are touched or crushed.
Is the plant toxic?
Yes, particularly the seeds, which contain alkaloids. It should be handled with care and kept away from curious pets and children.

Strictly ornamental

Beautiful structure and very interesting flowers. Just make sure people know not to eat the pods!

Unique winter bloomer

It's great to have flowers in February. The smell is a bit strange, but only if you brush against it. A very hardy survivor in my dry garden.
